SIP is an acronym for Session Initiation Protocol, which is the signaling format of Voice Over the Internet Protocol (VoIP). It’s a proven method for using an Internet connection for the purpose of making and receiving your office phone calls. The call path for each phone conversation is called a “trunk.” You don’t need to be an IT expert to use SIP because it’s no more complicated than using a traditional telephone line, which is pretty simple.
The greatest advantage of SIP is the cost savings. Whether you totally replace or just supplement your existing telephone lines with SIP, your monthly phone expenses decrease. And with our brand of SIP – InfoTalk Plus, you have the option of our unlimited plan, which makes your business communications expenses both predictable and manageable, or our metered (price-per-minute) plan designed for average or below-average phone usage. For either plan, set up is free. And that’s not all! There are other benefits of InfoTalk Plus:
What about existing phone numbers? How about new numbers?
With InfoTalk Plus, you can keep your existing phone numbers and we will “port” them to our network for you, or you can order new ones – whatever works best for your business. Also, you receive one free phone number (DID) per SIP trunk. If you need more numbers, they’re available at only $1 each per month.
Does InfoTalk Plus include toll free numbers?
Yes. Toll free numbers are available with InfoTalk Plus for $1 each per month and a low rate of $.039 per minute for domestic usage. Consistent with our other rate plans, international calls are billed separately.
Does SIP require any special equipment?
It depends. If you already have an IP phone system, like a Cisco, Avaya or Nortel, which is enabled for Internet phone calling, you will not likely need additional equipment. However, some IP phone systems require upgrades in order to connect directly to the Internet, which could mean a one-time expense. If you don’t have an IP phone system, purchasing a new phone system is not necessary. You can keep your existing system in place, but your phone calls will need to be converted into IP, which will require a network solution, the cost of which varies depending upon the solution. And if you’re in the market for a new IP phone system, look no farther than our hosted VoIP PBX solution – InfoTalk Pro.
How much Internet bandwidth is necessary for SIP?
A high quality Internet connection with ample bandwidth is fundamental to any VoIP service. With InfoTalk Plus, you can conservatively estimate Internet bandwidth at around 100 Kbps per phone call. If you need to prioritize your phone calls over your regular Internet traffic and achieve maximum efficiencies, you can do so through QOS, which we also provide. What type of customer support exists for this service?
For all of our business customers, we provide real time customer support by phone or email 7 X 24, every day of the year. Our Customer Care Center, located in Oregon, is staffed with friendly and knowledgeable support reps that can assist you whenever you need it.
How long does it take to install InfoTalk Plus?
It depends mainly upon what’s needed to fulfill your specific requirements. A simple installation can take only one day after your order is placed. A complex installation requiring multiple locations and networking equipment installations could take up to two weeks.
